SIDR Tree, native to the region of Hydramaut, Yemen

Hydramaut - ‘a land of Honey’, Beepkeeping is deep rooted throughout Yemen’s history.

The legendary SIDR Honey holds exceptional value in Arabic culture and is regarded as one of the most highly prized food of the regions. Recognized as the most potent and expensive honey in the world, SIDR Honey from Yemen is known for its beautiful taste and potent medicinal properties. Harvested only twice a year in the Hadramaut Mountains of Yemen, SIDR Honey has been around for 7,000 years and is produced by the bees who feed on the sidr tree, a holy tree in the Muslim faith and Christian’s call it ‘Christ’s thorn’.

One of the world’s oldest trees, it is rugged in nature and can withstand even the harshest environment in the Yemeni desert. The health benefits that come out of this tree are amazing, so much so that even scientists are trying to find out ways to use the fruits and leaves of the Sidr tree to produce modern medicine. But the key lies in the belly of the bees, which swarm from the mountainous regions of Hadramaut to feed exclusively off the Sidr tree. Most bees will die when feeding on the tree given the trees strong nature. The bees that do survive will go back up the mountains to make the honey which will get harvested every season.

The harvest of our SIDR Honey of Yemen is strictly from the best Yemeni beekeepers that are stringent in ensuring the honeys purity and potency by allowing their bees to die rather than feed the bees with sugary syrup. Typically, bees of a certain hive make over 35,000 trips just to make half a kilo of honey but some bees fed solely on the nectar of the Sidr flower die after making a few trips. The weaker bees cannot withstand the potency of the nectar of this remarkable tree.

Throughout the process we maintain the strictest quality controls and take the utmost care to ensure every jar delivers the superior experience of Sidr Honey of Yemen.

Woodcott SIDR Honey is currently available in 250ml bottles.
